Dremel 7300-PT Pet Grooming Kit
Do you find that even taking your dog out for walks around hard pavements fails to keep their nalis trim. The trip to a groomer or Vet can be expensive just to have their nails trimmed, trying to do it yourself at home used to be fraught with problems, nail clippers in inexperienced hands can be distressing for both user and dog!
In simple terms I would encourage you to stop using those clippers and scissors to trim your dog’s nails, I know you bought them with the best of intention and love for your dog, but it is so easy to end up with incorrectly trimmed nails, too short, uneven and even bleeding can result.
Is it any wonder that your dog simply refuses to cooperate next time you advance toward them brandishing your clippers, to them it means discomfort and often pain no matter how many treats you have in your other hand.
The Dremel 7300 Solution
I have found a solution to the problem as far as ‘Bobby’ is concerened, you may recall ‘Bobby’ [photo above] is our rescue Yorkehire terrier, still very nervouse whaen faced with stressful situations. It was almost by accident that I came across the solution.
I was re-furbishing our kitchen and needed a tool that would enable me to work in confined spaces, puuting screws inside cupboard housing for example and I was introduced to the Dremel 7300-N8 cordless tool. It is a compact size allowed me to work on design details I could not reach with other larger tools and had lovely soft grips which nestled into my hand allowing me to work without wrist breaking pressure. I was using one of the sanding blocks when the tool slipped and I caught one of my fingers against the block, it did not hurt. OK I am not looking for sympathy but later this became a germ of an idea for me. Looking through the leaflet that came with the tool I noticed a pet kit?
On further examination I discovered that hundreds if not thousands of per owners had bought the kit for this fantastic lkittle tool and were saving themselves money and their pet grief by using the kit attached to the tool to grind their dog’s claws. WOW! This was worth looking into I do not know about you but our Vet does charge a hefty fee for nail trimming, if there was a tool that enabled me to do it myself without the fear of a distressing situation for me or ‘Bobby’ I had to do it. The discounted price was less than one visit to the Vet, so using it for the second time would mean savings, now that I liked. But how would ‘Bobby’ take to it.
Dremel 7300 Gentle and Fun
If I just rushed in and applied the grinder to his front paws, which he does not like to be touched anyway, I would build up the same resistance that had to the clippers. So, first of all I made sure that when I used my tool he was in the room with me, I let him sniff it and get used to the sound especially when I had a sanding block on the tool.
I said before that ‘Bobby’ is still very nervous of unfamiliar situations so when he was on my knee I accidently at the same time just happend to have the tool to hand. I let him sniff it put his paw on it and generally get used to it. I switched it on on a low revolution setting (did I tell you it has two speeds) and let him get used to the light vibration. When he was happy, I checked one of his front pawa to make sure his fur was not too long, if it had been I would have put the tool down and gently trimmed the fur back and left it at that until the next day and start the process again.
He was quite comfortable on my knee and I switched on the Dremel 7330 with one of the dog nail sanding bands attached, and gently touched one of his nails applying no pressure, to my surprise he did not pull the paw back, I only touched the nail for 2 -3 seconds so that the nail did not heat up and cause discomfort and that first night I only trimmed a couple of his nails. Now he is quite happy to allow me to trim all of his nails using the Dremel 7300 using the pet kit, in fact we make it part of his pampering session, he likes his back massaged also.
Dremel 7300-PT Pet Grooming Kit Old – v – New
I believe that the old tool was driven by a couple of double ‘A’ batteries but this new one has a re-chargeable battery is very quiet and causes him no discomfort and that is important, in fact the slight vibration obviously appeals to him. The pet kits come in various sizes so make sure you get one that is correct for your size of dog, I promise you if your dog is like ‘Bobby’ he will appreciate your purchase I believe it is better than anything a groomer or Vet can do for your dog, that is a personal opinion but ‘Bobby’ has not saidd that they do a better job, good enough for me, he gets his nails trimmed and I am saving money a WIN-WIN situation.
